Plant paradise

From the rice field to the South Tyrolean vine. The botanical gardens of Trauttmannsdorff Castle near Merano form over 80 garden landscapes with plants from all over the world. See, smell, marvel: a holistic sensory experience.

Adventure stations, artist pavilions, a tropical greenhouse, the water lily pond: the gardens are among the most beautiful in Europe. The interactive tourism museum in the entrance area conveys 200 years of tourism history in Tyrol and Merano creatively.

The opening hours:
Between April and mid-November, the Trauttmansdorff Castle grounds and museum open at 9.00 am. Including Sundays and public holidays!

Museum tours

There are around a hundred museums in South Tyrol providing insights into the country and its people. The Women's Museum in Merano is unique, with an exciting glimpse into the history of women.

The Museum "am Sandhof" in Passiria tells entertaining stories about the Tyrolean folk hero Andreas Hofer. The permanent exhibition "Heroes & Us" connects us today. The viticulture museum in Rametz Castle shows how viticulture developed. You can marvel at exotic pieces and an Egyptian museum in the Mamming Palace in Merano.

The Jewish Museum in Merano provides information about the Jewish cultural community in Merano, which was one of the most important in Central Europe. The Archeology Museum in Bolzano holds Ötzi and attracts thousands of visitors every year. Perhaps you too?

Castle stories

In the bird care center, watch the eagles, buzzards, or falcons at the flight show. The Scena Castle invites you on a history trip. The stately halls house a gallery of paintings and portraits, a collection of weapons, and art-historical objects on Tyrolean history.

You can also admire one of the oldest tiled stoves in the country in the Grand Castle in Merano. It is one of the best restored castles in South Tyrol, with arms and imperial rooms and antique works of art.

Experience culture live

Clowns, fire-eaters and acrobats inspire with their tricks at the street art festival "Asfaltart." The Merano WineFestival is elegant with winemakers and experts tasting the best wines.

The South Tyrol Festival Merano offers top-class concerts: renowned stars give guest performances with music from classical to modern. The garden nights at Trauttmansdorff Castle are dedicated to world music. International music giants captivate with their hits on the stage in the water lily pond. The grape festival in Merano, the oldest harvest festival in South Tyrol, offers traditional sounds and customs. And that's not all!
